Whitmore's Gourmet Foods Inc. in Cleveland Heights is featuring expansion on its menu this year after selling franchise rights for two carryout barbecue stores and beginning a search for a downtown site to open its first full-service restaurant.
Owners Virgil and Vance Whitmore already have sold franchise rights for stores in East Cleveland and Cleveland. The twin brothers also want to try their hand at operating a restaurant downtown, where they have been scouting locations near Playhouse Square.
"We want to pull in folks from the theater and (Cleveland State University)," Virgil Whitmore III said. "We'll have an enhanced menu downtown."
