PHOENIX -- When the Milwaukee Brewers broke camp Thursday and boarded a flight to Los Angeles for their final two exhibition games, outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. wasn't with them.
He was driving home to San Diego after being placed on outright waivers.
With Gwynn out, it means the Brewers settled on Chris Duffy and Brad Nelson as the backup outfielders.
Gwynn, who is out of minor league options, did not play Wednesday or Thursday. If he clears waivers, he will be assigned to Class AAA Nashville.
Another club could claim him off waivers, raising the possibility of a trade.
