Summary: DUBAI u There were no casualties or major damage when an escalator on the first floor at BurJuman Centre in Bur Dubai caught fire at around 11am due to a short circuit, on Friday.
The blaze was contained in a record time, according to a civil defence source. The fire filled the centre with smoke and destroyed the decorations of Aa the Aa escalator.
The visitors at the shopping centre were evacuated as a precautionary measure. "Though no casualties were reported, the building was evacuated, in collaboration with the Dubai C Police, as a precautionary measure," the source said.
