An Onondaga County grand jury Friday ruled the fatal shooting of Moses "Teish" Cannon in November was a hate crime prompted by the victim's sexual orientation.
It is the county's first prosecution of a homicide as a hate crime, District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said.
It is also only the county's second hate crime indictment, he said. The first involved the October 2000 break-in and arson fire at Temple Beth El in Syracuse.
