MONEY may have been too tight to mention for Manchester pop band Simply Red in the Eighties, but these days it is top of their agenda.

The group, headed by songwriter Mick Hucknall, are suing record giant EMI for at least [pounds sterling]300,000, saying they are owed the money for sales of their album Simply Red 25: The Greatest Hits.

According to a writ filed at the High Court, Simply Red - whose first single was entitled Money's Too Tight (To Mention) - appointed EMI as exclusive distributor and reseller of the album last September. EMI agreed to pay an advance of [pounds sterling]750,000 plus a share of net sales once ...
