WORCESTER - The plain, boarded-up windows at 4 King St. sent too depressing a message, supporters of the Stone Soup Community Center decided.

So, the day after a March 26 fire devastated the center's headquarters in the Main South neighborhood, supporters drew murals on the boards. One of them bears the message, "Out of this we rise."

Supporters, taking this message to heart, continued their efforts to rebuild the structure and go on with the center's work with a volunteer work day yesterday. An estimated 50 to 60 volunteers helped remove and clean salvageable contents from the burned-out building. They also ...
