Aug. 28--The lowly burger flipper is in hot demand these days at the corner of White Bear Ave. and I-694 in Maplewood.
In a vivid snapshot of how record-low unemployment is playing out in the Twin Cities, the four fast-food restaurants there are scrambling to find workers for jobs that once were a snap to fill.
A large yellow sign sits on the grass outside Wendy's, but it doesn't advertise the latest special. "Now hiring, apply within," it reads. Next door at Taco Bell, a fluorescent sign near a stack of applications asks customers to consider a second career at the restaurant. Across the street at Hardee's, the manager took the help-wanted sign ...
