RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Circuit City Stores, Inc. today reported August 1997 and second quarter sales for the company, the Circuit City Group (NYSE: CC) and the CarMax Group (NYSE: KMX).

For the month, total sales for Circuit City Stores, Inc. rose 22 percent to $757.2 million from $618.4 million in August 1996. For the second quarter ended August 31, 1997, total sales for Circuit City Stores, Inc. rose 14 percent to $2.02 billion from $1.77 billion in the second quarter of last year.
