During the Great Depression the late Taos santero Patrocino Barela is forever part of the legacy of the thousands of workers who diligently toiled at their crafts for a pittance -- but who did so with great pride.

The creativity that was sparked by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) stand as a reminder of a time in America's history when dreams were not allowed to be shattered by economic calamity.

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the WPA, New Mexico authors Tony Mares and Levi Romero will give readings Friday (Oct. 24) from 6-8 p.m. at The Taos Gallery, 103 Paseo del Pueblo Norte. ...
