There aren't mammoth marble, iron-gated mausoleums adorned with weeping statues in Taos' cemeteries, but that doesn't mean there's a shortage of the famous and infamous peacefully resting here.
Kit Carson Memorial Cemetery
Kit Carson Memorial Cemetery (and state park) holds the majority of the area's historical movers and shakers. It was originally named the American (or Military) Cemetery.
One of those shakers, or villain to some, was Arthur Manby. His 1926 grave sits just outside one of the entrances to the cemetery and contains his headless body. He was found that way, legend goes, because of his less-than-ethical land dealings. Not too much ...
