The mix of drilling options that metalworkers can choose from continues to expand, principally due to the demand for increased productivity and lower costs. In short, the cost per hole and advances in drill designs and machine capability are driving the development of better drills and drilling techniques.
Drilling, which accounts for about 30% of all machining operations, comprises three distinct segments:
* Short hole drilling - depths up to 3x dia.
* Medium to long hole drilling - depths up to 7x dia.
