PICTURE A POINT on a curve at which it changes from being concave upwards to concave downwards, or vice versa. If you're driving along that curve, the inflection point is where the steering wheel is momentarily straight while being turned toward the other direction. "Straight" could translate to "benign" in an operational risk management environment. However, if ever there were such a point, we've certainly moved into negative curvature now. At the 2007 Global Conference on Operational Risk, panel moderator Jay Newberry pointed toward some inevitable changes that have, indeed, come to pass.
