Atwood Oceanics Inc. officials issued a statement after the markets closed April 7 to refute rumors that the offshore oil drilling firm was an acquisition target.
Houston-based Atwood (NYSE: ATW) stock fluctuated sharply that day, with more than three million shares changing hands, nearly three times the typical volume. Atwood shares had been trading at higher than usual volumes since March 25.
The shares shot up 75 cents in early trading April 7, but ended the session down eight cents to close at $18.97.
