Sep. 16--A Bay Area company trying to steer more auto insurance sales to the Internet moved into the industry's fast lane Monday by enlisting the nation's largest carrier in a computer-driven price-quoting service.
State Farm Insurance will field applications from California and 46 other states through a steadily expanding electronic emporium set up by InsWeb, a San Mateo-based company that opened its first East Bay office in San Ramon on Monday to help carry out its ambitious plans.
