UN chief deplores Fiji leader's decision to scrap Constitution

United Nations, Apr 11 (PTI) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed his "dismay" over Fiji's President Ratu Josefa Iloilo's decision to scrap Constitution, describing it as a "clear attempt" by an "unelected executive" to prolong rule by setting a new five-year timeframe for parliamentary polls in 2014.
The South Pacific archipelago's leadership also declared a public emergency and fired the country's judges following Fiji's Court of Appeal ruling that the 2006 ousting of the elected government was illegal and the appointment of the interim Government was ...
