KABUL, AFGHANISTAN -- On December 22, 2008, two men driving a car full of explosives blew themselves up in Ghazni province, which straddles the critical Kabul-to-Kandahar road in southeastern Afghanistan. They detonated their charge prematurely, missing the provincial governor's building, killing themselves and one civilian and injuring three others. That same day, on the opposite side of the country in Farah province along the Iranian frontier, Saaj Boys' Secondary School, where 200 students are enrolled, was burned to the ground.
