I wrote an article for CIL on open source software (OSS) last year. It went through a few of the standard things libraries could be doing with OSS, ranging from using Firefox to installing Ubuntu on public access computers to using an open source content management system such as WordPress to run your library's blog or website. At the time, my argument was that OSS options have matured and are in many cases better than the alternatives. That is still true.
This time, instead of looking at a few large-scale scenarios, I'm going to look at smaller-time stuff, figuring that if you know about OSS at all, you're familiar with OpenOffice.org but may not know much about ...
