I thought I was well-prepared to be president. I had been a member of the governing assembly of the California Library Association (CLA), Sacramento, for five years and on the executive committee for two; I had been active on numerous committees - even chaired a few of them. Shortly after the election, I attended ASAE's excellent two-day symposium for chief elected officers and chief staff executives. Nonetheless, life became exponentially more hectic as I juggled association responsibilities, a full-time job, and family life.
