Argentina's Pluspetrol and Spain's Repsol S.A. were the big winners in Bolivia's first public exploration bidding round, which capitalized on the excitement generated by the upcoming Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline.
Of the 29 fields that went up for auction in the bidding -- which ended last Friday -- 16 were bid on successfully. Total investment from the round will exceed $323 million (TOD, 9-16-97, p.3).
Argentina's Pluspetrol took the largest number of blocks, with six: Rio Seco, San Isidro, Arenales, Yacuiba, Entre Rios and O'Conner. Repsol, meanwhile, picked up the Inau field in a consortium with Brazil's Petroleo Brasileiro, the Tuichi and Rurrenabaque ...
