The hotel and car rental industries are crying foul at elected officials' continuing habit of putting the onus on tourists and business travelers to finance stadiums and arenas the public wants -- but won't pay for.
Politicians' long-standing argument is that new sports halls boost tourism, which ultimately benefits the hotel and car rental trades. That way they can tell the public that outsiders are picking up the bill for an expensive projects.
Representatives of both businesses insist that most of the people who go to sporting events are local citizens and that they should foot the bill.
