Richard Lariviere revealed several things with a single observation during his visit to the University of Oregon this week. The sole candidate for the UO presidency said higher education in Oregon is in a position of relative strength, because public financial support already has been withdrawn to such an extent that further cuts won't be as traumatic as in other states.
The remark showed that Lariviere is good at spotting silver linings, grasps the Oregon University System's financial condition and sees opportunities in the difficult times ahead.
