With New York State's humid summer climate already in the midst, the risk of contracting the West Nile Virus (WNV) from an infected mosquito is at its highest. So far this summer, scientists have reported no bird or human cases in New York, but a local scientist, Dr. Ward Stone, Wildlife Pathologist for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), said the virus is guaranteed to show up at some point throughout the summer.
"At this point we don't have a bird that's positive. We are monitoring heavily each day. West Nile is going to be here. It is each year since 1999 and it will continue to be here," Dr. Stone told The Informed Constituent. As New ...
