In mid-August, Rupert Murdoch, the wealthy owner of News Corp and Fox News, bought Dow Jones and Co., from the Bancroft family, after a century of ownership for $5.6 million. Murdoch also recently bought the financial newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
Since Murdoch owns News Corp and its properties, Fox News and the proposed Fox Business Network, he will soon have enormous influence and control over key sources of financial news. Murdoch plans to expand The Wall Street Journal's political and international coverage. He says he wants it to be more competitive with The New York Times and The Financial Times of London.
