Mapping machine tool errors over a thermal-duty cycle can be difficult because of the many error measurements that must be independently measured for a given cycle. Measurements take a long time to complete because only a single error measurement can be made during a duty cycle. Thermal errors are thought to be the largest contributor of overall machine inaccuracy. The OmniGage Spatial Measurement System from Tetra Precision Inc, Gainesville, FL, overcomes this time barrier by collecting all of the error terms from a single setup during one duty cycle of the machine.
