FLORENCE - As economic barometers go, spring break on the Oregon Coast isn't exactly Black Friday. Tourism is so weather-dependent that the success of businesses this week is more likely to reflect Doppler radar than the stock ticker.
But even with cool, cloudy weather, a steady stream of tourists filled the sidewalks of Old Town in Florence on Tuesday. And some of the owners of stores they wandered in and out of reported happily that they're actually spending money.
