TEN WEEKS BEFORE the Log Cabin Republicans National Convention in mid April, the group's president, Patrick Sammon, packed up his office. The week prior, the group's only other full-time staffer, communications director Scott Tucker, quit too. Now the Log Cabin Republicans--the nation's largest gay GOP group--finds itself prepping for its convention in Washington, D.C., an event that will include people like former New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman and author Nathaniel Frank, without a leader.
