Bill Byrne said a number of things made reaching the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro an extremely memorable experience.
"The glaciers up there ... the terrain, the strange vegetation on the way up ... it was such an incredible place to be," said Byrne, 60, of Jamesville, of the recent ascent with his brother, Dan, who lives in Seattle.
Add to that, Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania, Africa, is the tallest free-standing mountain rise in the world, rising 19,330 feet from its base.
And after reaching the top on Feb. 27, the two brothers and their climbing party went down some 600 feet and spent the night inside ...
