WHAT WAS THE LARGEST PRIVATE COMPANY IN ARKANSAS IN 1984? We re not sure; Arkansas Business didn't begin researching its annual list of the state's largest private companies until 1988, and initially only the top 50 were ranked (although several ties brought the total to 54). But it is telling to compare the 25 largest companies in that first list, which were ranked by 1987 revenue, with the top 25 in the most recent list, which were ranked by 2007 revenue.
