Article: A MOTION seeking to grant Central Council a permanent licence to allow soccer and rugby access to Croke Park was withdrawn at annual Congress yesterday. Following a request from Central Council, Clare's Noel Walsh, speaking for the motion, said he would agree to defer for one year but that it would be back on the agenda in 2010.

Congress defers motion to keep Croker open
A MOTION seeking to grant Central Council a permanent licence to allow soccer and rugby access to Croke Park was withdrawn at annual Congress yesterday. Following a request from Central Council, Clare's Noel Walsh, speaking for the motion, said he would agree to defer for one year but that it would be back on the agenda in 2010.
Already Central Council has been granted the power to rule on the use of Croke Park until Lansdowne Road is reopened after development work next year. But there may be opposition within the GAA to extending that right, given that one of the main factors in amending Rule 42 in 2005 was ...
