The National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. recently voted to keep its embattled president, Rev. Henry J. Lyons.
The denomination's governing board members gave Rev. Lyons a vote of confidence during its recent annual meeting in Denver. The denomination also voted to drop an internal investigation into allegations that Rev. Lyons misused church money to buy real estate and jewelry for a female aide.
After the vote, Rev. Lyons said at a news conference, "The people have spoken. I do consider this a serious wake-up call. We must tighten up our ship, and I promise we will do that today. We will put reforms in place."
