NEW YORK -- Current and former employees of Mademoiselle Knitwear Inc. are seeking $30 million in damages from Liz Claiborne, UNITE and two local unions affiliated with UNITE.
The suit, filed Tuesday in Manhattan federal court, alleged that UNITE and its two affiliates breached their duty when they "bartered away the rights of over 600 of its members in exchange for a $20.5 million payment" by Liz Claiborne made "directly to the parent union."
Claiborne had a collective bargaining agreement with the Blouse, Skirt, Sportswear, Children's Wear and Allied Workers' Union, Local 23-25, and the suit charges it made the payment in exchange for the local's agreement ...
