Major ports' capacity increase to 555.67 MT in 2008-09
New Delhi, Apr 20 (PTI) -- Amid shrinking maritime trade in the wake of the global economic slowdown, the country saw its major ports' capacity increase to 555.67 million tonnes (MT) in financial year 2008-09.
"Even after the global economic meltdown impacted our trade, the major ports' capacity has increased to 555.67 million tonnes on March 31, 2009 and will see a quantum jump in capacity increase if projects planned under PPP (public private partnership) materialise," a Shipping Ministry official told PTI.
