BEIJING, April 21 Asia Pulse - China is mulling enacting a tax on carbon emissions, said Su Ming, deputy director of the Research Institute for Fiscal Science under the Ministry of Finance at the recent China Renewable Energy Forum 2009.

The tax, if implemented, will have direct negative impacts on coal, oil and natural gas producing companies, analysts point out.

According to Su, who heads a team of experts who have conducted study on carbon tax for a year, China is likely to levy the tax on emissions of carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides and discharge of wastewater prior to launching other environmental and energy taxes.
