Dhaka, Apr 21 (UNB)-Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami Tuesday said 195 persons put on the list of war criminals after the 1971 liberation war were pardoned under a tripartite agreement among Bangladesh, Pakistan and India.
Later on, he recalls, Bangladesh's 'architect' Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared general amnesty through a press note for all but those involved in killing, rape, arson and loot. 'At that time no Jamaat leader or worker was indicted for any of these offences,' he said.
Nevertheless, he added, presently Jamaat is being hinted at for the war crimes out of 'political vendetta'.
