FORT WAYNE, Ind.--Cheese-making has returned to the Swiss community of Berne through the start-up of a small plant there last week.
Swiss Way Cheese Co. began making cheese last week in the former Berne Cheese facility, which closed its doors in August 1996.
Swiss Way sells cheese at a shop on the premises and at 15 other northeast Indiana locations. The company also is talking to a supermarket chain about distributing in Fort Wayne. Owners hope to expand distribution throughout the Midwest.
Russ Riemer and Tim Ehlerding opened their Swiss Way store in March, reselling products purchased from other manufacturers.
