Researchers from the University of Toronto, have found that high doses of vitamin K do not protect against age-related decline in bone mineral density (BMD). However, the researchers have found that vitamin K reduces fractures and the risk of cancer.

The study involved 440 postmenopausal women with osteopenia. They were divided into two groups; one group received 5mg of vitamin K1 on a daily basis and the other group was given a placebo. The study was conducted over a two-year period.
