WASHINGTON--Oct. 8--Capping a two-year lobbying effort, Massachusetts biotechnology firms and medical device makers yesterday claimed a significant victory as the House of Representatives voted to speed up the process for approving new drugs and medical products.
The bill, which is similar to one approved by the Senate, aims to answer industry and patient complaints that the Food and Drug Administration takes too long to review new products. But some consumer groups fear the faster reviews could also be less thorough.
