New Zealand is under assault as a nuclear-free outpost. Denied access to the Kiwi's deep-water ports, the Pentagon has drummed New Zealand out of the Anzus Alliance, which linked the two countries militarily with Australia after the end of World War II.
During a visit to Sydney last April, General Colin Powell, former chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, declared that New Zealand would rejoin the Anzus Alliance shortly--just as soon as the country repeals its nuclear-free-zone legislation.
