The 78th annual National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago in May opened with the whirring of ice cream machines and frozen drink dispensers slushing out a steady stream of tropical flavor smoothies and other ice-cold drinks. Indeed, the hottest frozen foodservice trend this season is the frozen drink.
The show, largest foodservice exhibition in the United States, caters to the restaurant market. This year's venue - a new and larger McCormick Exposition Center - proved to be a crowd pleaser. There were plenty of novelty ice creams and some new frozen food items, but everywhere one turned a frozen drink was within reach.
