Fretheim's book is part of a series called "Studies on Personalities of the Old Testament," edited by James Crenshaw. In this volume, Fretheim focuses on Abraham and his family in the Genesis texts and addresses theological and critical issues. Perhaps what makes this book relevant is that Fretheim writes this volume fully realizing the pivotal role Abraham has come to play in recent dialogue between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
