The technology is the best ever, but today's rifles and shotguns are rooted in our hunting heritage.
Modern firearms and ammunition are so advanced that many hunters assume they are far different from the comparatively primitive shooting systems available more than a hundred years ago. Such, however, is not exactly the case. Many prototype designs and some still-current firearms models sprang from pre-World War II and even pre-1900 technology.
