HIGH POINT, N.C. -- As the furniture industry convenes here for the spring High Point market, many vendors have modest expectations.
Very soft first-quarter retail sales, coupled with a downturn in the housing and real estate markets, have left several dealers with heavy inventory, so their appetite for goods at market may not be strong, sources said. This market also has its earliest starting date ever, and follows by just two months the expanding furniture market in Las Vegas, so many expect traffic to be off.
