Message of love trumps all
Regarding the April 12 column by E.J. Dionne, "U.S. religion changing, not fading": It is encouraging to hear that what is fading is the narrowed Christian message of certain politically oriented sects, not the rich opportunity for redemption and service brought to us by Jesus.
We also got a hint of movement in this direction when we left the Baptist General Conference in California for a 10-year membership in a small Southern Baptist congregation in south Texas. There we saw a growing willingness to help the poor and to be more tolerant not only of "colored folks," but even of homosexuals.
