Los Angeles hasn't had a city-wide riot since 1992, a major earthquake since January 1994, a disastrous flood since 1995, or a lurid, nationally publicized crime since ... well, the North Hollywood bank robbery in February.
That absence of catastrophes has once again accentuated the area's attributes - year-round sunshine, long stretches of beaches, mountain area recreations, cultural destinations, and more.
By most measures, L.A.'s standard of living appears to be on the rise. Jobs are growing, home prices are stabilizing and the damaging fires and floods of yesteryear seem to have given the region a reprieve.
