Bruce Snyder, a former University of Oregon football player and assistant coach who achieved national prominence as the head coach at California and Arizona State, died Monday of cancer.
Snyder, who passed away in his Phoenix home with family members present, was 69.
Last year, Snyder was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer that spread throughout his body. There is no known cure, but Snyder battled the disease with characteristic optimism, updating his struggle on a Web page.
