LAS VEGAS -- The economic downturn is compelling consumers to eat out less as a way to save money. As a result, more households are rediscovering home-cooked meals, to the benefit of food retailers.

But such factors as convenience and nutrition as well as value are very important to shoppers, and are helping to drive many of the most successful new products, according to Anne Berlack, executive vice president of Information Resources Inc (IRI). Speaking at the IRI Summit 2009 here last month, Berlack unveiled the top 10 new product pacesetters in the food and beverage arena and discussed the factors behind their success.
