Pop Music
Rafael Toral is a DIY musician in his own right. Using handmade, custom-built electronic instruments such as the electrode oscillator, the echo feed and modified guitar amplifiers, Toral performs a series of works that explore space -- physical space, mental space, visual space, acoustic space and musical space. It's no coincidence that the Lisbon-based artist calls his latest performance "The Space Program." But Toral isn't about saturating his space with sound. His show is as much about silence as it is about filling that silence. 8 p.m. Friday. EMPAC, 110 Eighth St., Troy. $15 adults; $10 students and seniors. 276-3921; http://www.empac.rpi.edu.
