Introduction

The properties of carbonated soils limit the development of many mycorrhizal mushrooms. Truffles (Tuber Micheli ex Wiggers) are nevertheless an exception to this rule, since the calcareous and well drained soils of Mediterranean forests afford the required habitat for many Tuber species.
