Linking services to medical savings accounts may let docs escape HMOs
While medical savings accounts have been slow to get off the ground in New York state and elsewhere, physicians are emerging as enthusiastic supporters of MSAs both for their patients and themselves.
"MSAs are an alternative to a bad system," says Dr. Carl Weber, a White Plains physician and prominent critic of managed care who is now exploring ways to link physicians to MSAs. "MSAs will return the control of health care to the patient and doctor, where it belongs."
