The dog days of August have brought disappointing news to textile and apparel mills.
Fruit of the Loom is laying off 4,800 workers in six plants in three states.
The sewing and assembling operations to be affected by the layoffs are located in Campbellsville and Jamestown, Ky.; Abbeville, Martin Mills and Port Barre, La.; and Harlingen, Tex. The Port Barre, La., facility, with approximately 350 workers, is being closed.
